Mindful Brain Project

Study purpose

The Mindful Brain Project aims to learn how mindfulness during "neurofeedback" can help decrease depression symptoms. Participants may earn up to $484.

what does the study involve for adolescents?

  • Complete a virtual interview about current and past thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. 

  • Complete a MRI scan (non-invasive) while practicing mindfulness.

  • Complete short surveys sent through push notifications to one's phone. 

  • Complete a virtual follow-up interview 1 month after the MRI scan.

who is eligible to participate?

  • Ages 13-18

  • English speaking

  • Currently experiencing symptoms of depression

Investigating social Media, brain Processing, and Cortisol in Teen Suicide (Project IMPACTS)

Study purpose

Suicide is the second leading cause of death among adolescents, but little is known about factors that increase risk for suicide. Recent advancements, however, may allow us to detect suicidal thoughts and behaviors in real time by monitoring teens’ smartphone use.

Participants may earn up to $390.

what does the study involve for adolescents?

  • Complete a virtual mental health interview. 

  • Upload data from social media accounts to examine activity

  • Provide a hair sample

  • Complete a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan (optional)

  • Complete virtual follow-up interviews at 2, 4, and 6 months after the initial interview

who is eligible to participate?

  • Ages 14-17

  • English speaking

  • Presence of mood, anxiety, and/or substance (drug or alcohol) symptoms

  • Instagram user
